Import from JVc Everio GZ-MG20U

I am so new at this, so forgive my ignorance. I am trying to import video so I can play around with iMovie. Finally figured out that I need to download that QuickTime Mpeg2 converter program. Bought it . Downloaded it. Now What ? I've installed it 4 times on my hard drive thinking it will automatically open and tell me what to do. But Noooo !

I also figured out ( through the message boards ! ) to open the Capty MPEG editEX thing on the JVC disk and convert to a DV from a MOV file. I did that but it takes FOREVER and the quality is poor.

I paid 20 bucks to get the QuicktimeMPEG program thinking that would solve it but I'm stuck !! HELP ! Be specific if you can-I bought a Mac becuase they are supposed to be easy to use but I am really struggling with this iMovie thing !

MPEG Streamclip (free) can convert your .MOD (MPEG-2) files into DV Stream (.dv) for use in iMovie.
The $20 "thing" only enables viewing of MPEG-2 formats and conversion using third party software.
You bought the wrong kind of camera to do any kind of editing in iMovie without first converting the files it creates.

I bought the camera last year and had no thoughts of ever editing stuff. My husband has an IBM computer and dumps all the video into it. I was just hoping with a brand new Mac that I could work on stuff on my own.

So I wasted 20 bucks ? That new software won't help me at all ?

The $20 software is required by MPEG Streamclip to convert your files to .dv format.

By "dumping" or draging the eviero file into the mpegStreamclip window you get a opertunity to convert the file to .dv! The quality is ok but its extra work?
iMovie works best with origenal MINIDV (tape)corders.
When you use mpeg2 to convert to .dv its is like shifting flour the other way,making it lumpy...
There are plenty of great things with iLife 6 and i7 hopefully will fill in some blanks? (Surprice us)
