Turkish Characters

Hi I am new mac user. I bought it from the US, and when I try to enter the Turkish web sites, it does not support the Turkish characters, and it shows some corrupted/strange ones.

I am giving an example below: (we use mainly Latin characters, but in Turkish web pages, it shows the 'ğ' and 'ı' instead of the special Turkish ones)

Araştırmada sebze çorbası gibi hafif kalorili çorba çeşitleri kullanıldı. "

I would be very happy if someone can show me how I can correct this issue.

You probably need to adjust the encoding setting of your browser in View > Text Encoding (near the bottom of the list are Turkish ISO and Turkish Windows options). Normally this should not be necessary, but some sites are not done correctly.

If you would provide the url of the site you have a problem with, I can probably tell you what is going wrong.

Thank you for the reply.

The address of the site is:

http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/anasayfa/

Though, it is same in other Turkish sites and email, too.

I went view/character encoding and tried the two Turkish options, but it didn't help. (or should I restart the computer, etc to make an effect?)

I can't see any problems on my machine. All the dotless i's and g-breve's look fine (also in the first message you posted above). What browser are you using? Can you send me a screenshot of part of that web page which does not display correctly for you? The address is tom at bluesky dot org.

Do you have any special fonts you have added to your machine besides those that come with OS X?

I didn't added any fonts, etc, but after you asked, I realized that I am using firefox. It does this problem in firefox, but not in safari..

may be it is totally related to the firefox

I sent the screen shot to the email you gave

Firefox does have some bugs like this, but my latest version (2.0.0.3) displays that Turkish page without problems.

yes i checked now and mine is 2.0.0.3, too
actually i downloaded just two days ago

should i delete and download it again?..
