alesis multimix 16 firewire and garageband

hello, im still trying to decide which rack mountable audio interface best suits my needs and that doubles as a stand alone mixer. i know from the many positive posts that presonus firepod is a quality product. i do however prefer the control face of the alesis. has anyone had any experience using an alesis firewire mixer and garageband? ease of use and recording quailty are important too. ill post a link to the mixer here:

the multimix usb 2.0 supports 96khz that matches up nice with garageband. the firewire version has 48khz as a ceiling. the usb 2.0 vs firewire throughput should be a fair trade off for 2x the khz.

I use a Multimix FW, works just fine, sounds good and has been reliable. I use it for recording and use to use it live. The firewire version can be found at some great prices online. If you end up with a usb 2 version could you post back let us (me)know how it works.

doh! i guess ill be prepared for a software upgrade that supports 96k should i do logic express someday. thanx

ill do that. i paid $374.95 for the firewire but it was open box(not advertised as open but evidence suggests so), it had no power supply. im returning it and getting the usb 2.0 model, i saw it for $399.00. thank you 4 posting

If you need more then CD quality then you will need another software package. But along with 96k capability come a much more intense work environment and a big learning curve. If your end product will be used in itunes, burn a demo cd or put on the web then garageband will be more then fine.

Also looking at M-Audio Fast Track Pro (yes I know one is multi track the other only 2 tracks)
But I'm concerned that the Fast Track is only usb 1.1 ?

Any other ideas would be appreciated.
It would be great to record 8 tracks but 1 stereo track would suffice.

Both Alesis and m-audio work with intel as do most interfaces.

And usb 1.1 is plenty fast for two in two out channels of audio.

Thanks much...
I may just try the Presonus Firewire...
It's $100.00 cheaper than the M-Audio 410 and gives me the ability to plud in a mike in the front along with a line 6 Pod 2.0 then my mixer in the back. That way I don't have to plug and unplug.

Any experience with the Presonus... I'll check their websight for intel drivers.

To get back to and stick with the thread, I just learned that Alesis is filing for BK. May or may not affect service and support in the long run.

Bk? meaning bankrupcy??
good! they deserve it, poor customer care and lack of support forced me to lodge a complaint with the Fair trading Board and the ACCC.
Hope they die out and go broke.

I believe Alesis filed many years ago, before it was bought by Numark. I'm almost sure this is a very old story unless it's happening again.
