bypass erase and sync warning

I recently deleted all traces of my iTunes library and lost some purchased music. the rest was backed up. Some of the purchased music remains on my ipod shuffle. Itunes will not recognize my ipod unless I erase and sync. This will in turn erase the purchased music of which it cannot re sync. how do I bypass the erase sync so that I can use podworks to drop the songs back into my library.

The problem that I am having is that when I hit cancel, I tunes does not show or recognize my ipod, so I can't get to the summary pane to set it up as a storage device, nor can I get it to transfer purchased music in the drop down, or use pod works. I thought that I might be able to see it in disk utility but I did not. I am really a rookie.

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Most of the utilities require that that iPod is enabled as a removable drive to access it, when your iPod appears in iTunes enable it for disk use: Using your iPod as a storage drive
