Second Monitor on Windows XP

We have two new macbook pro laptop computers. When running OS-X we connect a second monitor to the laptop and it works fine. When running windows, the second monitor output does not work. We are very familiar with windows and know how to configure a second monitor output in the display properties setup. However, neither one of the two computers seem to work with the second display when running windows. Do you know, what might the problem be???
