Web sharing suddenly stopped working...

Have been trying for days to set up mysql, php and apache and i am afraid to have been messing to much around - problem:

I cannot turn websharing on and thereby unable to start the server...

I have tried to start mysql via terminal but unable to get the promt >mysql

Can i throw everything out (mysql, php) and reinstall it again to see if thats work?

A very tired danish bloke...

Yes you can. PHP you can just reinstall to overwrite the old one. MySQL you may have to manually uninstall.

so somw prelim questions:

1.) Are you using the stock apache that is installed in the system or did you install Apache2 or an additional instance of Apache 1.x? If youre not using the system install of Apache how did you install it?

2.) How did you install PHP and what version?

3.) How did you install MySQL?

Thanks for your effort guy's.

I used the preinstallet apache that came with my powerbook.

I discovered that i had 3 different versions of PHP - i have deleted all of them. Latest version was Marc Liynnards pack.

I did not install any mysql, but used the version that came with the powerbook.

To Gnarlodious: Nice and informative site about PHP and Apache

Will continue to investigate...

Ok...tried the applejack and that solved a few things. First it did repair my HD drive for some errors (incorrect number of Extended Attributes (8,1), but it also revealed this:

When checking the server it replied with /usr/sbin/lookupd (166) Excited abnormalyy: Hang up

Does that tell you anything about the server.

My plan is now, to wipe out the installed mysql and reinstall a clean one, together with a new PHP
