.. ERROR CODE 4450 HELP PLEASE!.. I copied my cd/dvd diagnostics here

Hi, I used to always be able to burn CDs on my computer with iTunes fine and now I keep getting error code 4450 right after the 1st song begins to burn. My computer is not even one year old yet! I tried reading other topics like this one but I could not figure out how to fix the problem myself. The questions were responded with asking to run the cd/dvd diagnostics on iTunes so I did and here they are... PLEASE HELP ASAP! THANK YOU!!!

🙂 that is helpful, actually. sometime iTunes will throw a 4450 if the drive isn't liking a specific type of media. but if the brand has worked before, we'll put investigations related to that on the back burner.

4450s can also be produced if iTunes and the drive are not liking (or have stopped liking) a burning speed setting.

go edit > preferences, and head into your "Advanced-Burning" subtab. what preferred speed do you currently have set in there? what other options do you have available in the pull-down menu?

I used to always have "maximum possible" when it used to work but then it was on that setting when it stopped working also. But then I switched it last time to 12x I believe. I have 1x 2x 4x 6x 8x 12x 16x 20x 24x and maximum possible.

I also have the disc format set to "audio cd"

hmmmmm. okay, the documentation on the Philips that i can find at Dell doesn't give the range of CD-R speeds that the drive has:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/P112120/en/specs.htm

... but i've seen some other drives where 12X wasn't supported as a CD-R burning speed. so perhaps try switching it to either 8X or 16X.

if no joy there, let's have a look at the Windows burning speed settings on the drive itself.

in My Computer, right-click the Philips and select "Properties". click on the "Recording" tab. what speed is set in there?

okay. moving into general principles troubleshooting mode now.

i had a look at your downloads page at Dell. although there isn't any new XP firmware for the Philips, there are a few other items of interest there.

Dimension 5150/E510 (XP)

check to see if your Chipset driver ( Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility) is up to date.
check to see if your Dell Dimension System BIOS is up to date.
check to see if your ATI Hyper Memory PCI-Express X16 (DVI/VGA/TV out) Radeon X300 SE is up to date.

(actually, if there's anything else there applicable to your particular configuration, now might be a good time to stock up on things you're behind on.)

once you're satisfied that you're up to date, is there any improvement with the 4450?

okay ... perhaps head through to here to check on the things we haven't covered yet:

iTunes for Windows: Additional troubleshooting for burning issues

(perhaps also try experimenting with different media ... i guess it's plausible that although the spindle of CDs you are using has worked before, you might have worked your way through to a "bad" run of CDs in the pack.)

but if no joy there, try heading to the following page to check for additional documentation, and to submit your diagnostics to Apple:
