.rmvb files

My gut feelings already told me the answer, but I think it's worth a shot to ask you guys about this. I've got some .rmvb video files that I really want to put into my iPod (which I haven't got just yet) to watch, but is there any way to turn .rmvb into .mpeg or other iPod compatible files? My gut feelings tell me that even the brand new Final Cut Studio 2 (I've got version 1) can't do the job, but there's always hope, I think.

I think I know what the problem is. I've looked for some other programmes (freeware and shareware) that claim to convert .rmvb into iPod formats, and I tried them. None of them worked. So I was thinking, perhaps it's the .rmvb who has problems, not the software. However, I can play those .rmvb files alright, both on mac, and PC. However, on the mac, I can't play those .rmvb files in QuickTime Pro. Is that normal, or... well, abnormal? I need your advice and suggestions, please...

rmvb files are Real files and so, play in Realplayer, on the Mac.
A little search in the ffmpegX Forum reveals that you need to download and install reallib for ffmpegx to use rmvb files.
Download reallib.zip, which should unzip to a folder called "reallib" full of .bundle files and stuff.

Copy the whole folder (not just its content) to /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX , as per directions on download.html (near the bottom of that page).

Restart ffmpegX. Drop a rmvb file onto ffmpegX. It should now recognise it as a Real file. Try the Play button.

For conversion, pick a preset that uses mplayer. E.g. DVD mpeg2enc, with Decode with mplayer selected.

What do you mean when you say "copy the whole folder (not just its content)"? I don't know what the difference is, but I dragged the "reallib" file into /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX, so I guess it's fine. And, it doesn't work with my .rmvb files at all. It freezes; I have to force quit the program. I still don't know what's wrong, although my startup disk's name is one with spaces, which is what the website says I shouldn't do. I'm gonna try change that and see if the program still freezes.

yeah, iTunes is OK now; it really scared me for a bit ( I thought I had to relocate every song manually which I might need about 10 hours to do ). But how am I gonna solve the rmvb problem? I'm not sure if I've actually re-installed the program (ffmpegX) after changing my startup disk's name. I just trashed the old one, and install the program again by downloading from the website again. But I didn't trash what was in the Library folder. Should I have done that as well to re-install? Or do I have to re-install in the first place? Does whether or not the startup disk's name has space matter at all ( I don't believe it matters, even if it does, it's the program writers' fault, isn't it? ) ?

It's me again. I've tried everything. I trashed the Library folder as well this time. Re-installed it as if I've never done it. Still freezes (just the app, not the entire computer) when I import the .rmvb files in question. I even tried importing another .rm file, same thing happens too. Is the "reallib" thing actually working or not? Or have I dont anything wrong? Or, is it just a bug?
