Iomega External Zip Drive Doesn't Load

I recently had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall OS X 4.6 (updated to 10.4.9). And now my Iomega external SCSI/USB 100 Zip drive doesn't seem to work now, but it did prior to rebuilding my entire hard drive. I've unplugged the USB cable and turned it on and off a number of times but still even after inserting a disk into the drive it doesn't show up on my desktop. Iomega says that I do not need to install the drivers that Apple OS X 4 is fully capable of handling USB Zip drives via the Disk Utility. So why isn't it working, did I miss something when I installed my OS? I looked on both DVD's that came with my Mac and I did not see anything for Zip drives.

It's just a preference. If you don't have that box checked, for example, if you inserted a CD, it won't mount on the Desktop. That box must be checked in order for that to happen. What it's doing is recognizing your zip drive, but apparently that is happening checked or not.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the zip drive? They should be available from the manufactures web site.

According to both Iomega and Apple, the drivers that Iomega offers are not supported nor are they needed with OS 10.4 or higher (which I have OS 10.4.9 installed), according to Apple the Zip drive should be support with Apples USB Mass Storage software, this information is available on both Apples and Iomega's support web site's. I downloaded this and attempted to install, but it said I need to in stall OS 9 support, which I then did, but "USB Mass Storage software" still will not install because it says my computer is incompatible... Don't know why, it worked before I had reformat and reinstall everything.
