Missing CD/DVD drive after installing iTunes w/ Windows Vista

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 laptop. The problem I am having is when I install iTunes my CD/DVD drive disappears. The drive is listed in the device mananger but it is corrupt ( yellow triangle). I can restore the drive by going back to system restore before iTunes was installed. It was sugested by Toshiba that I wait for the Windows Vista/ iPod fix. It has been sometime and there has been no word of a fix. I just bought my laptop in march and my iPod last month and I can not use it unless I load all of music one time and do a systems restore and loose it. It has become very fustrating as all the hot fixes do not apply to Vista but XP. I really need some support from someone. Microsoft charges 95 bucks a hour ( I think) and Toshiba says it is a Apple/Windows problem.

Thanks-

that's typically caused by a device filter conflict in your registry. (it can hit people in XP or 2000, too.) for some advanced techniques for dealing with the Vista version of it, see:

Here is the Diagnostics for my drive. I want to make a correction to my last post. I am only showing lower filters in the Redgit.

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Edition (Build 6000)
TOSHIBA Satellite A135
iTunes 7.1.1.5
CD Driver 2.0.6.1
CD Driver DLL 2.0.6.2
LowerFilters: PxHelp20 (2.0.0.0),
UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.6.1),

Current user is not an administrator.

Video Display Information:

Intel Corporation, Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family
Intel Corporation, Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family

Connected Device Information:

DiskDrive, TOSHIBA MK1234GSX ATA Device, Channel 0, Target 0, Lun 0
CDROM, PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K17A ATA Device, Channel 1, Target 0, Lun 0

Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

Drive is empty.

hmmmmmmm. although regedit isn't showing upperfilter entries, itunes is:

LowerFilters: PxHelp20 (2.0.0.0),
UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.6.1),

try clearing both filters again using regedit. rather than manually adding back the filters, let's try getting the iTunes filters back in by doing a "reboot and repair".

reboot the PC (very important), and then head into your Add/Remove programs (or whatever the equivalent is on Vista) and do a repair install of itunes.

(unfortunately, the noir household Vista box hasn't arrived yet, so i can't talk you through precisely where to find where Vista keeps its "repair install" function.)

Ok...I figured out what happen. I did a full systems restore on my laptop. I recieved a lot of updates from Microsoft I did not recieve before. I downloaded iTunes, restarted my comp and checked to see if my drive was there in which it was, so far so good! I need to see if it dosent disapper, so I will keep you posted. If you can please keep this problem open for a bit = 0)

Thank you-
