Airport Extreme for dedicated DHCP address assignment (BootP)
Will the DHCP server in the new AEBS allow one to bind IP addresses to specific MAC addresses? Many inexpensive home routers (including my current D-Link) will let you define a static DHCP table that allocates fixed LAN IPs to particular MAC addresses. I use this capability to allocate known IPs to my servers and printers. This greatly simplifies defining firewall rules (inbound port mapping). The advantage of doing this is that the server devices will automatically receive any global changes to the network configuration, such as changes to DNS servers made by one's ISP. One can statically configure servers with IPs that are outside the scope of the router's DHCP server, but it's a pain to manage.
Thanks.

Alan,
Do you happen to know the AEBS will proxy for DNS? More accurately, function as a DNS Relay? My present primary router (a Contivity 100) does this: hosts on my LAN can be configured to use the router as the DNS. The Contivity relays any DNS queries to the "real" DNS servers out on the internet. ( It also caches the DNS queries -- by inspecting the cache, I can see where the kids have been surfing...)
