Buy French Macbook but use as English

I need to buy a MacBook asap but the only models available in my local area are French language versions. Problem is, I don't speak French at all.

Could I buy the Macbook but switch everything over to English, keyboard and operating system? Is the keyboard standard English QWERTY or does it have additional French characters?
