Hello all

I can not seem to get a G4-450 DP to work with a 22 inch clear Cinema display, i even have one of those dr.botts wich i normaly run a 2nd 15" clear display.

What happens is that it starts up and then goes black,

can anyone advise?

I have been using a Apple 15" clear display on the same card., in fact i also have a dr.bott adapter with a Radius 16MB video card runing a second 15" apple clear display,

I just got the 22" to work once, but when i rebooted it simply goes from the grey apple start up screen to black instead of the desktop., why would you suggest another card if this 15" screen works?

Hi-

Troubleshooting: My computer displays no video

Power Mac G4: Display Compatibility

22" Cinema Display (see page 17)

Your Apple Cinema Display works with a graphics card with a DVI digital-only connector.
If your computer doesn’t have the required graphics card, you must install one to use
this display.

Note: If you’re using more than one display, you may need a graphics card for each
display you are using.

I have been running 2 x Apple 15" clear displays on this computer for 5 years, (2nd screen of a radius card and a dr.Bott adapter) thismodela has a ADC card in it.

Like i mentioned earlier, the 22" worked once, starts up, instead of getting to the desktop it becomes totaly black.

The Power Mac G4 - (Gigabit Ethernet) video card does not support the Apple Cinema Display HD or Apple Cinema Display (20-inch) unless the original video card is updated to one that meets the specification for the display.

IS the above refering to a Clear apple display or simply the HD?

Hi-

Could you check your system profiler for graphics, and post the model of the card that you have? The stock card is the Rage 128 with the following specs:

-ATI RAGE 128 Pro graphics card with 16MB of SDRAM graphics memory installed in a dedicated AGP 2X graphics slot
-Support for up to 1920– by 1200–pixel resolution at 32 bits per pixel (millions of colors)
-Apple Display Connector (ADC); carries analog and digital video, USB, and power
-15–pin mini D–Sub VGA connector

You say you have a DVI port (along with ADC) so, I want to clarify the card model.

You also state that the display worked once- in what configuration? Connected alone? Through the Dr. Bott's DVIator? That means from the DVI port to an ADC connector on the screen (but the 22" is a DVI connection)?

I found the following quote on the Dr. Bott's page:
However, the ATI Rage 128 card will not work with the 20", the 22" and the 23" Cinema Displays

To clear up confusion (mine), please carefully check your profiler, compare the ports of your card to the Display compatibility link (in above post), and let me know the results (what you have), along with a description of what connects to what. A model number for the display would also help.

Generally speaking, when a display goes black after the gray screen, the graphics card isn't compatible, or the necessary software/drivers are not installed.

Thanks for your post

I tried running the Cinema both with its own adc dvi adaptor as well as direct into the G4's video card (which worked once).
