Mixing 24p Mini DV, 24p DVC Pro, and 30i...

Hey all,

I have 24 p material shot on Mini DV and DCV PRO. Should these both be compatible in the same 24P timeline in FCP or do I need to make dubs of one.

SImilarly, have some 30i footage. DO I need to dub this to 24P before digitizing in to keep the integrity of the 24P footage in my timeline.

Sorry if these are obvious questions. Just want to idiot proof myself before spending $$ or setting up a project with the wrong properties.

Thanks!!

Well, there are two answers...you'll like the second one better...maybe.

FCP 5.1 and earlier:

Capture everything as the same codec. This might require a capture card to get everything right, but that way you don't have to worry about rendering. DVCPRO 50? or HD? And the DV 24p...24P ADVANCED? If not, then it runs at 29.97. You can also use a plugin, FILM EFFECTS from www.nattress.com will make 30i into nice 24p, but will require rendering.

FCP 6.

Drop all your footage into the timeline and FCP 6 will allow them all to work without rendering...mixed codecs and frame rates on the same timeline.

24P? or 24P with advanced pulldown removal? DVCPRO 50? DVCPRO HD? What are you working with here specifically?

Regular 24p is 29.97...if you want a DV timeline then DV/NTSC 29.97. If advanced pulldown removal, choose that option...DV/NTSC 23.98 Advanced pulldown removal. If DVCPRO 50, then DV50, 29.97...or 23.98 if it is 24PA.

Or just get FCP 6 and it will choose for you.
