Trying to install Flash Player (which did not succeed), I discovered that the folder «user/library/internet plug-ins» is empty, although the «Installed plug-ins» from Safari shows a list of them.
A couple of questions for you: If HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins is where they are supposed to install, why did Apple create a folder by the same name under users?
? # 2: I tried to help a guy who is not able to play videos from ABC.com (see my posts from this morning). He could not play those shows in either Safari or Firefox. So I went there and was able to play them in both Safari and Firefox - AFTER I downloaded/installed two plug-ins that were furnished via ABC. Those plug-ins installed in my user/Library...folder and not HD/Library...
I moved the plug-ins to HD/Library... and the videos would not play in Safari, but did play in Firefox. So back to users they went - and now both browsers play the ABC shows. Any idea as to what is going on here????
Plug-ins installed in a User folder are only available to that user. Those installed in the HD/Library are available to all user accounts.
A Safari version 2 browser doesn't need any additional plug-ins other than Flip4Mac to view ABC files. His browser is only Safari 1 (for 10.3.9) and can't be used at ABC.
I hate to be a pest, but I am the only user on my intel imac - so therefore it should not make any difference where the plug-ins are installed - unless there is going to be a future change in users.
Further note; I have had Flip4Mac installed in my computers ever since it came out and the ABC videos with the so-called NEW Player would NOT work until I installed their plug-in. I currently have 20 items in my HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins folder and 2 items in my user/Library/Internet Plug-ins folder.
More information about the plug-in for ABCs new video player. Out of the 22 plug-ins I have on my computer, the one furnished by MoveNetworks Inc is an (intel) plug-in - all the rest are mostly (universal) and a couple are Power plug-ins.
The name of the plug-in is: Move-Media-Player.plugin
The version is: npmnqmp 07051001 Mar07, Copyright 2006 Move Networks, Inc.
I apparently was wrong when I said somewhere that there were two plug-ins required for ABC's videos to work. Two are listed in Safari installed plug-ins, however there is no plug-in in either HD or Users folders for this other plug-in; application/x-vnd.moveplay1.qm.
I actually think I am confusing myself! What is with a "specific" intel plug-in?
