AC adapter popped.

AC adapter popped.

Last night while watching my star trek dvd, my AC adapter made a loud popping noise. After that the green light on the magsafe adapter went out.I also noticed that the AC adapter was EXTREMELY hot to the touch (moreso than usual) I looked up the problem on this site and found the following article:

Unfortunately the article does not explain what to do if the ac adapter overheats and pops, or if that is covered under my warranty.
Thankfully the battery was full, so I was able to back up all my data.

I'm going to take my laptop in to the apple store tommorow.

MBP 15 inch, Pb 12 inch, imac Mac OS X (10.4.9) Bootcamp on mbp 🙂

Yeah, I figured that it wasn't something that could be solved online, but I did want something I could reference when I got to the genius bar.

Should I take pictures of my desk so they know that it isn't the desk's fault?

aside from a kernel panic I've never had a problem with any of my macs, so this is frightening to say the least.

Hi again,

Not really necessary to take photos although it certainly would not hurt if you do. I suspect the conversation will go something like this:

You: Hi, my MBP's AC adapter went pop and now it doesn't work. Look, here it is, see for yourself.

Apple Retail Store dude: How long have you had the Mac sir? Is it still under warranty or do you have AppleCare?

You: Yup, it's still under warranty but you can double check the serial number if you want.

Apple Retail Store dude: That won't be necessary sir. Here's a replacement adapter, apologies if the original one caused you any unnecessary inconvenience. Next please and would you like french fries with that - oops sorry that's what I must say at my evening job in McDonalds, not here at the Apple Store.

When I got to the apple store there was a line, but an apple store employee brought me a stool so I could sit. I set everything up for the tech, and when it was my turn he solved the problem in under six minutes.

I heard some horror stories online, some throwing out a rather impolite slur, but the utc store in california is top notch.

They even sell the laptop bag I use.

If you do hear a popping sound in your ac adapter, take it in immediately! As long as the thing isn't sparking or spraying ashes, the apple store should be able to take care of you.

(I purchased my macbook pro march 3rd)
