Bluetooth keyboard with PS3

Does anyone have any idea if an Apple bluetooth keyboard will work with a PS3? I'm tired of typing with a controller.

Dell XPS, Windows XP, 2.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4 Processor with HT, 2.5 GB RAM, nVidia GeForce 7800 GS.

I'm having troubles connecting my apple bluetooth mouse and keyboard with my PS3.

It finds them alright in the setup but when I click connect it says failed to connect, and when trying to do my mouse you can see a screen saying to type in these numbers to connect the device (which seems odd as I can't type with a mouse!) in the background with the error message in front of it.

Anybody got this to work or know if there not compatible?

Thanks
Dave

I haven't been able to pair a bluetooth keyboard or mouse to my PS3 either. It recognizes the keyboard, but then, as it gets to the authentication part, it gives an error. I wonder if that is going to be taken care of in the near future. I can get my headset to pair, so it's not TOTALLY the PS3, but I'm guessing they haven't updated the drivers for the PS3 to use the wireless keyboard/mouse.
Too bad...

I was about to buy the new Bluetooth Keyboard to use with my PS3 but I won't until we can get some kind of confirmations that these things begin to work.
I REALLY hope it gets fixed or an update comes out to support more bluetooth products, as that would be great!!

I did buy the new USB one for my computer though, its pretty awesome.

I've tried pairing my new wireless aluminum keyboard with the PS3, but it doesn't work for me either. The PS3 discovers the device but then times/errors out while trying to authenticate.

The most peculiar part is that if you type a few chars and hit return while it's trying authenticate, then the screen that tells you what security pin to enter rapidly flashes onto the screen just before the error message. Smells of faulty bluetooth stack behavior on the PS3...

Interesting read (from the PlayStation Support site): "6. Select the device that you want to register. If registering a keyboard, enter the pass key to complete the device registration (pairing). The PS3™ system randomly generates the pass key. If registering a mouse, you do not need to enter a pass key.". Seems to be the other way around. 😉

I've tried as well and it's just as everyone else has said. It sees the keyboard but then errors on the next step:

An error has occured during the register operation.
Try to register again.

I was trying to hit the power button or type so see if that helped but it was a long-shot and it didn't. Too bad, it's a perfect couch keyboard.

According to this thread http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id =1342117&view=bydateascending&page=1 there seems to be some problem with the way authentication is handled.

It also reports a work-around, first pair the keyboard with a Bluetooth USB-dongle (e.g, D-Link DBT-120) on some computer, and then insert the dongle into the PS3.

I'm pleased to report that with the latest PS3 firmware, my Apple Bluetooth keyboard (1st gen-white, not the new aluminum one) also paired successfully and works fine with the Sony Playstation 3.

I was unfortunately unsuccessful in pairing the Apple Bluetooth Mighty Mouse—the PS3 prompted for a passkey, then flashed quickly to an error message.

I'm having the same result. After 2.0 (although I'd never tried it before 2.0) I can get the bluetooth keyboard to pair with the PS3, and I'm posting this message on the PS3 now in fact. However, the mouse will not pair due to the fact that the PS3 is requiring a passkey input when in fact it should require the user to click a point on the screen as verification instead. The only reason for the passkey/click to continue is for the system to receive verification from the user that the correct bluetooth device is selected to give it permission.

I'm really hoping that Sony realizes this small error and comes up with a solution fast. The wireless keyboard is great but kinda defeats the purpose if I have to have a long extension cord for a mouse... well...i guess I could buy a non-bluetooth wireless mouse. But that's no fun...
