Remove former owner infor from Used iBook G3

What is the best way to remove all of the former owners information from a used iBook G3. I bought it of ebay and did not come with restore software. I have a new iMac 17" 1.5mhz. Don't imagine I can use this software. Any suggestions. I have seen some software on ebay for iBook. Any suggestions? New to Mac but will never go back to MS.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.9), Also have a G3 ibook 800mhz and iPod Shuffle

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.

Nope. You can't use the discs from the iMac.

It is important to have compatible restore CD's, obviously. It would probably be best to have the serial number handy and call Apple at the Legacy number. Ask if they have the software restore and install discs for your model. If they do, they will send it to you for a fee.

Once you get the correct software, you can erase the hard drive and restore the original software by following the links to the proper Apple Knowledge Base article from this link:

Good luck.

Create a new administrator account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences, log in with it, and then delete the old account; next, open the Sharing pane of System Preferences and change the computer's name. Neither step requires the iBook's installation disks, but you will need an administrator password.

I tried the Apple Legacy number to identify the operating systme disks and restore disks. They are not supporting this product and could not offer me any assistance. I tried the knowlede base but could find no info on the disks I need for my particular machine. ibook G3 800mhz with dual USB and Combo drive DVD CD-R. Any one that can tell me the part numbers on the grey disks would be helping me sort out which ones to pursue on ebay and the like. Thanks to all.

I have this same model iBook.

My software packet (a white gusseted cardboard envelope) has a barcode on it. Above the barcode is the number SW102602. Below the barcode it says "603-2347-A iBook Media."

On the CD's, it says "CD version 1.1." There are two OS X Install CD's (OS X 10.2.1) and three Software Restore CD's (which contain applications like AppleWorks and OS 9). Under the version number on the Install CD's are the numbers 2Z691-4178-A (Disk 1) and 2Z691-4179-A (Disk 2). On the Software Restore CD's are the numbers 691-4001-A (Disk 1), 691-4002-A (Disk 2), and 2Z691-4003-A (Disk 3). The packet should also include an Apple Hardware Test CD. The original software package also includes a World Book 2003 Media CD (Version 7.0).

I hope this helps you find them.
