My Ipod 1st generation won't turn on!

My 1st generation ipod won't turn on and the computer doesn't recognize it! I was putting new songs on it but it deleted all my songs except the 2 songs I put on it. But when I tried to put it back in the computer to fix it, it shut off and wouldn't turn back on. But I can't take it back to the store because it was bought online and used. It was a gift from my friend for Christmas. How do I fix it? Can it be fixed?
