How to force quit photo booth?

Photo booth is hanging on a iMac here.

If I choose force quit from the dock or from the apple menu it doesnt quit.

This is my wifes machine and she has a lot of different stuff open so I dont want to log out/in.

I cant seem to find the photo booth app in the activity monitor.
Whats it called there?

Is there a terminal command I can use to really force quit it?

Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Press the keystroke: alt ⌥, Apple  and esc to bring up the Force Quit dialogue box.

This is the same as choosing force quit from the apple menu, as I wrote.

Doesnt work.

Photo Booth shows up in Activity Monitor as Photo Booth. What is your indication that it is still running? (dock arrow, iSight light, something else?)

Dock arrow.

I tried restarting the dock, but It still has the arrow.
And I cant launh photo booth by clicking on it in the dock.
If I click and hold I get the optium to force quit, but that doesnt work.

You might have a corrupted preference file in PhotoBooth.

MacintoshHD/Users/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder and locate this file: com.photobooth.plist (it may have a slightly different name). If you can't locate using that path, try Spotlight. After you locate the file, drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. Don't worry about trashing a preference file as your Mac will create a new one for you the next time the applicaiton is launched.

Can you launch it from the Applications folder? Have you tried just deleting it from the Dock and then dragging it back to the Dock from the Appllications folder?

In Activity Monitor, are you viewing all processes? (The dropdown menu at the top.)

I believe I have tried deleting the pref file before.

But will try this again. Who knows how long it takes before the problem comes back? If so I will repost here again. Thanks.

My wife needed to use the app now so she restarted the machine.
That means that the app will work for awhile.

No, tried it. Got an error message. (Dont remember the number)

Cant drag it off the dock. Because it is registered as active.

Yes, all processes, but photo booth is not listed.

my imac also does.

but i can be more specific...

photobooth (and another program i use called periscope) both crash when the display wakes from sleep whilst the webcam is still in use.

when this happens i cannot force quit the app. it remains in the dock. if i try to relaunch it says "the app cannot be launched. -600"

it doesnt show in in the activity monitor, but does appear in the Force Quit Applications list

any one know of any imac webcam firmware problems or sleep problems?

I have the exact same problem on my Powerbook and iMac...

Locks up, does not show in force quit or Activity monitor

See if this helps:

Open a Terminal.

type 'ps aux' and see if you can locate Photo Booth in the list of processes printed. If yes, there will be a PID associated with it (look under the column PID in the listing). Then 'kill -9 <pid obtained above' should get the process killed.

I'm having exact same problem w photo booth not force quitting, Tried your suggestion w terminal, but it did not respond. Perhaps I am not typing in the right command? could you clarify?
