iPod stops song halfway through.

This has happened for a long time, but it's finally bothering me enough to want to fix it... and before you ask, yes I did the 5 R's. Even though they all play perfectly fine on iTunes and Windows Media Player, certain songs I upload to my iPod will play and then maybe 30 seconds from the end, it will suddenly stop and the position bar skips to -01 seconds (1 second to the end). It then freezes for maybe 10 seconds and goes to the next song. Can someone PLEASE tell me why this is happening, it's incredibly irritating. As I said, I've tried the 5 R's, and I've tried reuploading the songs by unchecking and rechecking them in iTunes about 1000 times... I've even tried re-encoding the MP3's at a different bitrate. One thing that sometimes works is when I go and physically cut maybe a second off of the song with my audio editing program, but since this particular album has songs that lead into each other I can't do that in this case.

Either way, this shouldn't be happening and seems completely random. HELP!!!

The same thing happens to my iPod!!! The only difference is that it jumps to -02 seconds, but that's almost the same as yours. The strange thing is this only happens to certain songs, while the rest play fine.

I know the problem is not the song files, because they work perfectly fine on my iPod mini. And I'm sure I installed everything right, especially since I followed the 5 steps exactly to ensure I made no mistake.

Why is this happening??? It's really frustrating and I would really appreciate it if someone helped us out!!

I have the same problem and it just started. It's happening on some CBR tracks as well as some VBRs. It's really making me angry. All my CDs are in storage so it's not exactly a simple matter of re-ripping. I see that this problem goes back a few years, it'd be nice to have an official apple position on it. This is my 4th iPod (80GB video) and I NEVER had this problem before.

Ok, so I followed the link and clicked somewhere and ended up at this place where I read people tried to reset the ID3 tag thing to version 1? I tried that and it improved by skipping -01 instead of -02.

And I checked through a lot of the songs the iPod skips. A lot of them don't indicate VBR! So that theory may not be the problem?

Ah! I figured out how to fix it.

Select the skipping songs and then right click and press Convert To MP3 and it will re-encode the files. Then you can just copy and paste over the existing files with the new re-encoded ones (which will be in the iTunes folder somewhere).

I don't know why re-encoding it with iTunes works but not with any other program but whatever - it works.

I use Easy CD-DA Extractor to rip my music, always MP3 format, always 320kbps, then I use ADD FILE TO LIBRARY function in I-Tunes to import my music.

Is solution to this problem to re-rip all my 100s of CDs w/ I-Tunes? LMFAO. Is that the "common" scenario to this problem, that people have used other rippers than I-Tunes?

Thanks, muffins!

I think I found another way to fix this too, so I'm share it just in case too.

So, what I did was delete the song from the library and then double click the file again to add it as a "recently added" new song. Without changing anything about the actual file, the song plays through on the iPod now. I'm not sue why that is, but it's worked for all the songs I tried it with so far.
