hp laserjet 4L printing funky

So the other day, my laserjet 4L printing through my dlink dp-300u started acting up. What is printing is not what I see. I'm getting a million blank pages except for some odd characters on top. I haven't printed in a while but am wondering if it has something to do with the latest update. I'm running intel imac core duo 1.83 GHz, OS X 10.4.9. I cleared out my printers and reinstalled everything but I still get the same goofiness. When I do a test print page from the printer, everything works find. When I go to the print server in the network and do a test page, things get funky. I also reinstalled the printer in system preferences and still get this garbage. Any ideas?

Thanks

Dave

Hello Dave,

Since the test page from the dp-300u is no good also, then there is little hope of getting the print to work from the Mac. It sounds like the unit may be communicating in an unsupported language, although I feel that a test print would be a text-only file. Anyway, try unplugging it for several seconds and powering it on again. This may help to reset it.

If this doesn't help, check the configuration of the 300u via its web page. I tested a d-link wireless print server some time ago and I think you can set the printer language to be used. If this is so for your model, it may be set to postscript and from what I can find this printer supports PCL5e/PJL only.
