What Did I Do? I really need help

I was working away and things started running slow. So I restarted and BAM, it reverted back to all the factory settings. No bookmarks, email it says I need to set it up, EVERYTHING from the desk top is gone except the icons for the drives. The dock, all my fonts I down loaded. I went into library/users and found the old desktop but I cannot get it to launch. I really need help.
I am on a G5 2.5 quad and OS X 10.4.9

First thing to do when you need help is search the forums. That would have pointed you to a recent thread, same problem: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=973249 See the last post in that thread.

Most likely you renamed your Home folder. The fix is here.

First is to check the recent threads in the forum you're visiting. Second is to search for something like: lost user, lost account, or lost mail. Hopefully, the thread I pointed you to has the fix.

Thanks guys. Neither thing worked.
When I did the first suggestion I was able to launch a single user but it would not take the mount -uw / command

For the second suggestion I opened what it said and I saw the short name folder. It was not renamed. I dont understand what to do.......

I have followed all the page in a lot of the threads. They all really go back to the Apple link for return to default desktop. I followed that and when I go to users, the home folder has not been renamed.
I dont know what to do??

When I hit return it prompting me for the command. It only said I think "root something" So I would type in the command and it would only prompt.

I assume there is only space on the command?

Any thoughts on the home folder not being reanmed?
I really appreciate your help.

We need exactly what it says, etc. Follow the steps in the link in my last post and ensure you copy down everything you see. Details are important. Finally, since you didn't rename the home folder, that's not the problem. Forget about it and concentrate on restoring the admin user account.

I tired it.
In single user mode I did the fsck -fy command. It repaired the disk, it said there was an invalid name.

so I then typed the the moun -uw / command and it came back with
-sh : fmount : command not found.

It will not let me mount the disk???
HELP

I fixed it. From reading old posts I realized the folder was moved. I dont know for sure I how fixed it. I moved folders around and now I have my desktop and everything back.

You should have kept running that command until it came back with an OK.

That's because you typed fmount instead of mount.
