thin vertical lines are appearing on the screen on my imac G5 (isight)

A short while ago a very thin blue line appeared running vertically down the the screen, i cant undertsand why the screen is beginning to do this as the computer is not that old.

A second line has just appeared. I hope the screen doesn't decide to die!

Can such a thing be fixed?

James

I'm afraid you are out of luck then. This is probably going to cost much more than AppleCare. In the future purchase AppleCare. You can always add an external display, and it won't have those problems. You may be able to get it fixed, if there are power issues that go with it. Check both these programs to see if your machine qualifies:

I just got my iMac on June 19, Model A1208, Serial W87227NGVUX and I was seeing couplets (two to four) of vertical "lines" on the screensaver. The "lines" are made up of diagonally offset squares and go about halfway up the page. Small red squares would also appear on the bottom of the transitional black screen between desktop and screensaver. June 20 I saw no "lines". Just now I started to see them again. Still fully covered. Maybe I should just send the whole thing back? Woodgow. PS As I am looking at the screen just now, all my "l"s look more faded than other letters. HMMM?

I have an Imac G5 17" with the same vertical line problem and I am really appalled about the way Apple is responding to our complaints.
Firstly, Apple launched their new Imac Duo a month after I purchased and did not afford me the option of waiting to purchase a new Duo for the same price. Apparently, if I had purchased 2 weeks prior to their launch, they would have swopped my G5 for a Duo (not good enough - sorry).
Secondly, my G5 has a video problem which seems more common than Apple care to believe, and further more, considering that my serial number is just outside the batch for extension repair W8543..., they should at least meet me half way.
My only option (according to Apple in London) is to pay 450 pounds, since I don't have Apple Care. They claim that my problem is just an unfortunate component failure (sorry buddy) and they have never heard of this video problem, yet it is being discussed on their discussion forum.
I was told by a technician from Apple that the reason why Apple is not considering my G5 for extension repair is probably related to the fact that a 3rd party company that supplied the parts to my computer is not honouring their parts warrantee to Apple. This means that the batch that qualifies for extension repair has faulty parts that are being replaced by a 3rd party company willing to foot the bills.
Shocking !!

I have an iMac G5 17" Early 2006 model that is not under the Apple replacement program and is about 18 months old. It started out with three vertical lines on the right hand side of the screen and now it has one down the middle.
I have just completed testing all the parts with another known good identical computer. The problem was not the logic board, inverter, or the LVDS Cable, it was the actual display unit. The problem is, they are on backorder right now. I hope this will help some of you.
This is something you really need a Certified Apple Tech. to replace for you, if you decide to repair it.

I just got mine repaired for $435.00, part and labor. It probably depends on where you are located and what the service provider charges per hour. This replacement is better done by a Certified Apple Technician, since you can only get the exchange price that way (which is lower than ordering the part in as a stock order).
I have no idea why these went out after 18 months, but you never know, Apple has been pretty good about doing extended warranties on their computers after a certain amount of repairs are seen done on a certain product.

My fathers iMac 17" G5, purchased October 2005 Serial W8539, has just recently developed this wonderful vertical blue line that everyone else seems to have here.
I feel really bad as he didn't take out the extended warranty as I told him not to bother as I'd never known a Mac to go wrong!
How wrong I was!
I've traced this Mac to the Shanghai plant and it seems to be where most of these faulty Macs are coming from so there is obviously a fault/quality control problem here.
Which begs the question..... Have the workers at this plant been Shanghaied?

P.S. I also brought an iPod that again comes from China. When I got it home and took it out the box and peeled the plastic off the front I discovered a lovely big scratch running across it! Of course I couldn't take it back to where I brought it as who would believe it came like that and that I hadn't done it?
Apple are you taking notes?

I just want to say:
ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Serial-W8547. 4 vertical lines on the right side and a fith is starting, on & off, while I am writing this. It is only 1 and a half years old.
5 months after I bought it the inverter board went out. Apple care replaced it 3 TIMES!!!!!!!!!!! I am obviously an idiot for not extending AppleCare. I was planning to do that but had money problems when the deadline came.

I love my G5 iSight but I think it is nothing less than a crime to have paid so much for something that breaks so soon. Obviously there is a problem. It is really hard to understand the policy of buying something and then be considered an idiot for not paying another chunk of money later to cover their faults.

They are selling faulty products.
