LOST installation CD For Sony Handycam DCR HC42

Hello Everyone,
Sony won't let you download the installation CD!!! You have to buy it for $70!!! And, all the freeware available is for Windows. I was wondering if you guys had any aolutions b/c my computer isn't recognizing the handycam!

Hotinthedesert,

How are you connecting the camera to your computer? If you're using the USB cable that came with the camera, that's your problem.

You need a 4-6 pin FireWire cable (Sony calls FireWire iLink). Any store that sells computer accessories should have them. No need to buy a Sony branded cable.

You don't need any drivers or any of the software that Sony has to offer.

That looks like a miniDV Sony model. If so, you'll need a Firewire cable (not USB) to connect to your Mac. Then iMovie should recognize the camcorder.
