iCal quits every time

When I open iCal there are seemingly endless new calendars without names, all ticked as 'show'. The application quits after three to five seconds.

Mac OS X (10.4.9)

parrick,

Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Plist removal is a simple troubleshooting step. Find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag it to the Desktop, log out/in or restart and let us know what happens the next time that you open iCal.

When did this behavior start?

Do you have any iCal backups?

G'day Ferd

Thanks for your help. I did all that with the preferences but even though all my stuff has disappeared iCal still has all the endless list of calendars and still quits.
It started to happen about two days ago and I'm afraid I've lost all my calendar stuff trying to eliminate the rogue calendars.
And no, of course, there is no back up.
Do you know if I can get another copy of iCal? My disks don't allow it. The upgrade file is empty.

G'day parrick,

If you are using iSync, or .Mac read these two articles:
1. iSync 2: Reset Sync History enables calendar and contact syncing
2. How to reset .Mac Sync

If not, open your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support Folder where you will find an iCal Folder. Drag that iCal folder to the Desktop then log out/in or restart and let us know what happens when you attempt to open iCal.

Try these steps before we look at reinstallation options.

mj.hall,

Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Since this is your first post, you are not aware that adding your question to another posters question is known as Threadjacking. Additional questions dilute support for both the original poster and the threadjacker.

The circumstances involved in your problem may seem similar, but individual attention will be provided if you start your very own thread.

When you start your own thread it will be helpful to provide the following information:
Do you have any iCal backups?
Are you using any iSync features?
When did this behavior start?
Will iCal work in another user account?
How did you reinstall iCal?
Did you reapply the Combo Update after reinstalling iCal?
