Just exactly how did you create this file? AFAIK Matt is right: the cda file is not an actual music file, but rather a file on a CD that instructs the player on using the CD. See this:
The CDA is a music file that I created. I would like to convert it to MP3 and do not see that option in iTunes. Does anyone know the process to convert?

In the "Importing" pane of iTunes' "Advanced" preference, set "Import Using:" to "MP3 Encoder". You can then hold down the Option key and choose "Convert to MP3" from the "Advanced" menu.
