my itunes is upgraded to itunes 7 but my ipod is still version 1

so im trying to update the software on my ipod, i went to itunes.com and download the new software but my ipod software is still 1.2.1. how can i upgrade my ipod software without waiting for the posted date of automatic update?


p.s i tried clicking "check for updates" but it says 1.2.1 is the latest version
