SLEEP O.K. AGAINST HACKING?

Does putting my iMac in sleep mode, instead of turning it off, prevent my hard drive from being hacked, as it would be protected if it were turned off?
Thanks in advance to all who answer.

If the computer is not set to wake up for Ethernet network administrator access or when the modem detects a ring, or if it isn't connected to an Ethernet network or phone line, it cannot be hacked into when it is asleep. The two options described above enable it to be remotely woken up, and an attacker could then get into the system as if it had been awake the whole time.
