iPod Shuffle without iTunes

Question

Can I use my iPod Shuffle as a data device (USB stick) on a Windows computer on which no iTunes is installed?

flatpanel iMac G4 700 mhz, Mac OS X (10.4)

Yes... but you must have set it to be a data storage device (in iTunes enabled for disk use).

I did, but Windows does not recognize the device and asks for driver software...

Strange... which version of Windows are you using? And which version of firmare is on your shuffle?

what's the Windows version? Why doesn't it deal with mass storage devices correctly?

Use the newest winamp! It installs the shuffle in windows and it beats iTunes... And it lets you use the shuffle as a "datashuffle"!!!

It's Windows XP and it handles USB storage very well, as I can use my USB sticks without any problem. Only the iPod seems not to be compatible.
