BCC field is visible to recipients

BCC field is visible to recipients

Is there any way a recipient can see who you have sent BCC to? This should not be possible, but a recent reply to one of my emails had the address in their CC that I had sent in the BCC. This may just be coincidence, but as their mail program also failed to reply to my address in the Reply to field, I wonder how reliable either of these fields are.

Using the Bcc: field is reliable for the most part but not foolproof.

The only 100% foolproof method to make sure multiple recipients for a particular message do not know who the recipients are is by sending the same message to one recipient at a time.

Peter,

Did this message have at one valid address in the To field? Many SMTP will move addresses from the Bcc field, if no To address is used.

The general approach to mass mailing with BCC is to address the "To:" line to yourself, then everyone else goes on BCC.
