Is there any way to convert unencrypted DVD files in quicktime (though some sort of plug-in etc)? I am asking because I just purchased the turbo.264 for converting unencrypted DVDs for my AppleTV and their software *****. I want to use quicktime to load in either Video_TS files from Mactheripper or disk images from toast, and output h.264 files with the appleTV setting in quicktime pro (because this is the only other program that can take advantage of the turbo.264... handbrake cannot so it takes 5x longer). Is this possible?
You won't be using Quicktime at all unless they are silent movies (because they will be after using Quicktime to export).
Note VIDEO_TS are folders and not files at all. VOB files are the MPEG-2 video files.
No idea if the Turbo gizmo will work with MPEG Streamclip or not. I use it exclusively to encode to H264 at about 1/2 real time ( e.g. a 4 minute music video encodes in 2 minutes, maybe even less) so just how much faster is this device supposed to be? Maybe it won't be unless only compared to QT exports.
I just read their site, it supports any applications that use QT as the processing engine and only its own software which you don't care for to encode MPEG 2 streams, so you may be out of luck. (Since QT won't handle the audio it may be the only way).
Streamclip AFAIK does not use QT as its engine which may explain why it is so much faster than an export actually using QT to H264.
I have an iMac G5, so I don't think that I will be getting 2x real time encoding. What kind of computer are you using? And how does MPEG Streamclip compare to Handbrake for converting DVD's? I would just try it myself but I don't want to pay for the Quicktime plug-in to find out that it doesn't go any faster than handbrake. Thanks,
Dual G5 2.5 with 3 GB RAM.
Try using Streamclip for an identical source clip (sound or not) and if your experience is like mine it encodes a lot faster. I use it to convert WMV to H264 and the G5 is say 90 seconds for a 4 minute clip and QT Pro is 4-6 minutes.
