Video Card to upgrade?

Want to get a video card for Quartz Extreme on my G4 (gigabit) Choices are:
1. nVidia GeForce2 MX 32MB AGP
2. ATI Radeon 7500 32MB AGP
3. ATI Radeon 7000 64MB AGP

Which one would work best? They all are about the same price.

G4 Dual 450 (Gigabit), Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Jeff,

Last year you gave me some help with upgrading the optical drive on a PCI Graphics, and you recommended upgrading the ATI Rage 128 at some time. I finally upgraded to the Radeon 7000 64MB. When I select shutdown, the system will go to a blank screen with hollow spinning beach ball but never shuts down. Upon restart I get the error message about not properly shut down. Ant ideas on fixing the problem? Card detals from the Profiler is below. Thanks.

I think you're referring to me (not the "Jeff Furse" that posted this topic) and the recommendations that I made in your post back in October. Did the shutdown quirk occur as soon as you installed the flashed Radeon card, or did everything function normally for a while? Beyond Tiger updates, what other software have you installed?

The Radeon January 2005 Update was current for OS 10.3.6. From ATI's web site: "If you have a newer release of Mac OS X, you should already have the required ATI components as part of your OS. Running this installer will not install anything. This installer and its core driver set are not compatible with Tiger, Mac OS X 10.4. Tiger already includes its own versions of the ATI core drivers." Your system info indicates that you're running Tiger (10.4.9), so did the Radeon January 2005 installer give any indication that it would not install drivers, because newer ones were found?

It went through the installation process very quickly, the status bar shot over to the right as being complete and it indicated 0 items remaining to install. It then said that the installation was not necessary. I also tried to perform a software update, but that has been unsuccessful. The checking for new software status bar gets to about 15% complete and stagnates; the ripples comtinue to be seen in the bar indicating that it processing. I cancelled out after 15 minutes (broadband connection) of no change in status. I also tried to reinstall the OS but neither drive became available for the install after 10 meniutes. I am working on backing up software and I'll reformat and install the OS. I'll let you know the outcome.

Hya, I just upgraded my mac (the same as yours G4 gig) with a Radeon 9800 Pro Mac version (128mb) and it works great... you might consider fitting the Arctic cooling Fan 1 it uses a PCI slot but is quieter than the stock fan and it exhausts to the back of the cabinet.. thus keeping things inside cool...

I have no vested interest in either of the above links and neither will provide profit or gain for me. Posted for courtesy only.
Hope this helps
