I CANT RECORD WITH MY BUILT IN MIC OR ANYTHING any help?

i use logic pro quite alot at school and stuff

and i bought a copy of logic express to use on my macbook

when i go onto it i tried to record with the buit in mic but no record button was there

i checked everywhere

and i cant get any inputs to come up either
and on preferences and audio drivers there is no drive for built in mic

so i thought my built in mic must be broke

but i can still use garage band to record. weird

what is goin on

any help out there?
