Formatting Sony Memory Stick

Hi All,

Im trying to figure out how to format a Sony Memory Stick Pro/Duo/M2 in a Mac? I recently bought a Sony USB memory card reader, but I cannot seem to be able to format any of my memory cards... Of course the box said it only support Windows... there were no program for Mac.

Is there a function of formatting these memory cards from in a Mac?
or, it just need to delete the unwanted file(s) from the memory stick manually?

Thanks in advance,
Em

Normally one would use Disk Utility, which is in the Utilities folder. You would need to "initialize" the disk with Disk Utility as HFS. However, if you plan to use the disk also with Windows, it is easier just to plug it into a Windows box and format it then. This is because Mac recognizes Windoows, but Windows pretends to ignore Mac. So for cross-platform you need a Windows formatted disk, even though there are some limitations with what you can store on it.

In any case, all USB cards I have ever encountered are already from the factory in Windows format. Just plug it in and use it, unless you want HFS filesystem specifically.
