LED Screen Flicker

I bought the new LED display MacBook Pro yesterday and the screen flickers when it isn't on max brightness.

Anyone else have this issue?

Macbook Pro 15", Mac OS X (10.4.9)

What you are seeing as a screen "flicker" may actually be a result of ambient light changes.

they can seem to be flickers if the brightness of the graphics changes or if the ambient light has a change.

Those users who have not used a laptop with the ambient light adjustment are not familiar with the screen changes and might not see them as a natural enhancement. (tis hard to adjust after using one to using one that does not have it- you get used to it and miss it if using a lesser computer.)

If it does not happen when at max brightness, ambient light is more likely than a display problem.

To check: go to displays preferences and turn off (uncheck) "automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes."

try turning it off anyway. The LED is supposed to have a more immediate response and it wouldn't hurt to check the possibility if there is no flicker at max brightness.

(the new LED santa rosas 15" are everything that I was waiting for before getting an MBP and I hope that it is what I need to use before upgrading.)

PS as I sit here inside but under a greying sky with wind through the windows... the screen might seem to be flickering if I did not know that the light was varying. PBG4 15" h-res and it is doing the response to ambient light slight changes as I write.

I am seeing the flicker too on my one day old MacBookPro 15 LED at all but maximum brightness. Turning off ambient light sensor has no effect.

The appearance is similar to the shimmer of an elderly cheap fluorescent tube bulb, and it's distracting.

Looks great on max brightness but as soon as it's down one click the shimmer is visible. Easy to reproduce using a solid dark gray background for the screen.

Turning off the automatic brightness adjustment doesn't make sense at all! It is one of the great features, since Powerbook days, of these machines. It allows you to see in bight light and not be blinded by a bright screen in total darkness. It works great in any lighting situation, just like it's brother the backlit keyboard.

If the screen flickers it needs to be checked out. That's all.

That was just to test to see if the flicker was light related. I agree about taking the computer in but I also believe that the customer should do some troubleshooting before assuming that there is something wrong with the computer.

I agree that the ambient light sensor and screen and keyboard lights are some of the best inventions (as I said). I have different computers and if I am not using the 15", I so really miss the automatic feature. Tis one of my reasons for having gotten powerbooks instead of consumer models.
