Kerio Mail Server and the Great Divide

Has anyone deployed Kerio Mail Server in the Medium Enterprise Space ? (500-1000)

I have 576 Systems Deployed in 32 sites (Apple) and have a massive dilema where the staff can not collaborate, we use iCal & another poor solution that uses a plugin that isn't robust.

I would like to here from people that have deployed Exchange and draw comparisons to that product in the Medium Sized space.

I am waiting for Leopard @ WWDC soon, please Apple help me reduce risk for my due diligence.

Mac Book Pro/HP, Windows XP Pro, 2003 Server XServer MacBook Pro and HP/IBM

Hi: I’ve deployed Kerio Mail Server but nowhere near the space that you are considering. Works and runs well on the Mac platform. DNS has to be configured and running of course – and if you want LDAP Services – Open Directory Master. Noticed some installation problems that were sorted within an hour, thats about it. Decent Kerio telephone support also.

This was done with a small user base OSX/XP – 20 or so users. I don’t personally administer this but I do have contact with the administrator and he reports no problems and seems to be very pleased with it.

I will be deploying Kerio in the near future in a much larger organization (50-60 users again mixed platform). This time I think, I will be involved a lot more. I’ll let you know if I find anything useful.

Hi Mike

Just a follow up. I got around to doing this for a busy architects firm. Approx 30 users, mixed platform. Version of Kerio was 6.4 (latest one available as of this post). Installation went smoothly and everything works well.

There were some issues installing Kerio on OSX Server. Kerio’s own LDAP and secure LDAP Service ports conflict with Apple’s Open Directory. Although not a major problem as you can change port settings within Kerio. Same thing applied for Kerberos. These issues were sorted out but on reflection – in my opinion – it would be best to install Kerio Mail Server on a separate server to the one that is the OD Master and KDC. It may be possible to install Kerio on a client OS? I’ve not seen anything in the documentation that says different. That is as far as my involvement with this installation went. I shall be deploying Kerio again in next 3-6 months. I will probably do things a little differently. I’ll keep you posted.

cheers guys. I have given Kerio the flick. I don't trust it over our network 35 sites 600 users.

I will have to test Leopard Server across the organisation first then if Leopard Server doesn't fullfill our needs replace the total enviroment with Wintel/2003 platform.

I am really starting to like the Apple platform though, I am 50/50 on Leopard and really could not be bothered supporting a Windows enviroment again.

Thanks guys for the follow up, I shudder to swap out the platform, I just felt sick thinking about it. I gotta go and throw up. 🙂
