Editing volume of an .AVI file.

I have an .AVI file of an independant film and the volume is unbearably low while playing in my Quicktime Pro. Is there a way in which i can raise the volume of this file? I tried going into the 'Window' tab and then going to 'Show Movie Info' and then increasing the slide bars under audio and it is still too quiet.

Ive been forced to watch the movie in the preview pane because in there you can hold down shift-cntrl and over clock the volume slidebar, bit then its only barely audible.

Please, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you want it louder at the risk of some audio quality (like permanently louder) open in MPEG Streamclip , export to MPEG-4, where the adjustments button allows up to +12dB of audio gain. Make an MP4 see if it is better, if not reencode it with another +12. If that won' t do it you will get progressively louder but noisier results with each attempt.

Open in QT Player, get Movie Properties, then open the sound track window. Click on Volume then move the slider up. If that raises it enough for you then use Save. You can reduce the volume and resave at a later date if not happy with the results. This will not result in any re-encoding of the file so there will be no loss of video quality as there would be if you exported to a new format as others suggest.

I just achieved what I think you want using VisualHub

I took a Divx file and in the advanced pane chose "copy original video track (passthrough)" in the extra ffmpeg flags menu.
In the audio settings I chose +300%.
In the main window I chose AVI as the to option

Conversion was less than a minute for a 17.4 meg original file and the sound in the converted file was much louder. Size was slightly less at 16.5meg.
