it seems i can use my alt in illustrator correctly

can somebody help me with this ? i can't use my 'alt ' button to copy objects in illustrator , also my selection tool don't work correctly , i can't rotate objects or scale them ... i already checked my preferences and it seems nothing is wrong ... s.o.s

imac g5, Mac OS X (10.4)

Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards. Which specific iMac model do you have?

Does it work correctly in any program? Have you posted in the Adobe forums about this issue?

I'm sorry, but no matter how hard I look at my keyboard I don't see an alt key. Has the mac keyboard changed with the advert of intel chips? In the past Illustrator copied items using the option key(option click and drag).

The Option key acts as the equivalent to the alt key.

And is labelled accordingly on my Mac keyboard.

In fact I never think of it as the 'option' key as that word does not appear on it.

The only other marking on the Alt key is a small drawing of an overflowing bath that has been sawn in half....
