J2SE 5.0 on Intel Mac OSX

I have been unable to view Live Timing at the F1 website this season.
It worked fine last year, but this year it requires the J2SE 5.0 update; which i have downloaded and installed.
However, it has never worked; the page fires up but only shows the coffee cup..
I have tried several times but to no avail, also have read different posts that say java preferences etc and disk repair permissions but still no joy..
Anyone out there have the solution?? Thanx...

Hi

Welcome to Apple Discussions

Site works for me on a PPC machine.

Take a look at your Java settings. Do so by going to the Finder: Utilities folder>Java>J2SE 5.0, double click Java Preferences.app. My panel looks like this:

User uploaded file

Make sure your panel shows Java J2SE 5.0 at the top of the list (you can drag it there). Select the "settings" button>Applets. When you select "applets", another list will appear. Click on the URL heading, then scroll through the list until you see "live.timing.forumula1". Highlight the various related URL items, then delete. Close the various Java panels. Then restart the computer. Go to Safari and try F1 - live timing again.

Confirming you deleted the F1 site entries in the Applets list.

If so, try the Java site from another user account. If you require assistance with setting up a new User Account, follow this guidance from Apple.

You can ignore step 7 in the article. Also, on the system preference>Accounts panel, click on "log-in" options. There, select "fast user switching". This allows you to go back and forth between user accounts via an icon in your Menu Bar at the top of the computer screen.

Log-on to the new account and start Safari. If Java is functional for the F1 site in the new account, then your problem is specific to your regular user account. Otherwise, similar response means a system-wide problem. This will help better focus the resolution process.
