Creating a Smart Playlist using Beats Per Minute as a Criteria

Let's see if I can explain this clearly.

I am trying to create a Smart Playlist with songs in the 90 to 300 beats per minute range. I unchecked the "Limit To" box and the "Match only Checked Items" box. I made sure Live Updating was checked. When clicked "ok", only four artists were included in the playlist. I have over 2600 songs in my library; there SHOULD have been more artists included in that range.

When I went to look at my library, only those four artists had the BPMs listed. How do I get iTunes to show the BPMs for the other songs so that ? Please don't tell me I had to have had that information when I first downloaded the songs from the CD's....I will cry. LOL

iTunes has no ability to analyze content for BPM, so if you want to use that information, you have to enter it yourself or get lucky and have that info filled in automatically when you put the CD in, but as you discovered, that field is rarely populated in the online database, so it is back to you manually entering.
Sorry to make you cry!

I downloaded a freebie called MixMeister BPM analyzer.

It is very simple and probably about 80% accurate. There were a few kind of odd calculations. You can start with a small set of files and see how it works for you witout tying up your machine for hours while is calculates the PBM for thousands of songs.

It will fill in the BPM field in the id3 tags of your files.

Good luck.
