Computer won't recognize or charge iPod shuffle (2nd Generation)

Bought the USB charger from the Apple store to guarantee a high-powered USB connection, so that's not the issue.

I got exactly two charge cycles out of this thing. Obviously I can't use any utilities to reset it if the computer doesn't recognize it's existence.

Any thoughts?

Are you saying that even Apple System Profiler doesn't show shuffle in the USB tree?

If the ipod will not charge from a ipod ac adapter and the computer will not recognize it, then the ipod needs to be serviced.

The ipod can be set up for service via the ipod web service site:
http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod

One thing to try though. If you have access to another ipod shuffle (2nd Generation) cable to try. that way if it is the cable, a new one can be requested from the same ipod service website.

Assuming that you're charging it from a high-power USB port directly on the computer and it still doesn't charge, you may have a bad dock or cable. Take it to an Apple Store, or http://depot.info.apple.com/ipodshuffle/
