multi-track recording/audio interface in garageband

hey,
so i'm looking at this Behringer XENYX 1222FX Mixer to use for multi-track recording in garageband and i've heard/read that i can use any mac os-x compatible audio interface and the behringer site says it works on mac:
http://www.behringer.com/1222FX/index.cfm?lang=eng

so if anyone knows for sure if it works or has an idea for a better mixer around that price range, still with multi-track recording, that'd be nice.

thanks

THIS IS SOOOOO crazy! Just this week i was inquiring and researching about this same perspective setup for multitracking in GARAGEBAND.

As brave as it is, IT CAN BE DONE, and the newer macs (intel) run GB alot smoother.

In my own lil experiment, i have found that after downloading the necessary driver updates for garage band and CORE AUDIO DRIVER (digidesign) for an intel mac; GARAGE BAND DID recognize all the ins and outs of my DIGI 002...AND FOR YOUR SITUATION I STRONGLY RECOMMEND SAVING UP THE GRAND, AND GETTING A DIGI 002 off of ebay or something. Great for pro tools, EVEN GREATER FOR something as limited as GARAGEBAND... DIGI002!

Hey,

Me and my band use garageband for multi track recording and it works a treat. Our setup however is a fairly pricey one. Our mics go into a Behringer ADA8000:

Which is wired via optical to a Digi 002 Rack:

And then firewire into the macbook pro. But Im not sure if youd be better off with a digi 002 mixer as im guessing that does the whole thing for you. The only other thing id ask, as i wouldnt know but im sure a few others here would, looking at the fact you have just a macbook, is it capable of recording 8 tracks simultaniously at once smoothly?

my! thanks for replies!

trunx, thanks for the recommendation of the digi, but seems rather expensive for me.. with that AND mics i might not eat..

Baggypunka, that looks nice, but again kind of expensive and less simple than the firepod, but thanks again.

HangTime, looks like i'm gunna go for the firepod sounds like its smooth and not quite as expensive.. does any one have any suggestions on mics? i'm looking at micing guitar amps mostly but versatile mics are useful.

ah.. yes i use both a MacBook and G4 PowerPC, im hoping it'll still go smoothly on the G4 - it is a dual processor!

thanks once again,
martin
