airport utility: error code -6753

I just bought one of the new airport expresses and get this message when trying to connect from my XP PC via ethernet cable.

"An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again."

to initially get around the problem, i connected the cable from my macbook to setup. i then reconnected the cable to my pc. i have access to the internet (both via cable and wireless) but my pc still can't access extreme to configure.

unfortunately, i have not been able to find any discussion on error code -6753 in apple's discussion forums or the web. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

p.s. this pc was able to previously configure an airport express (wirelessly). i am no longer using the express and did install the new utility program that came with the extreme.

I had this same error code show up when I typed the wrong IP address into the Airport Admin Utility. I recently upgraded to Windows Vista and discovered that the Airport Express didn't show up in the Airport Admin Utility. I decided to press the "Other" button and experimented with the IP Address. My router indicated that the IP address for the router was 192.168.1.100. When I typed in that address, I received the very same error code that you are referring to; however, when I typed in 192.168.1.101, and entered my password, the information for the Airport Express showed up as it used to. I'm guessing that this error code has something to do with the wrong IP.

At the bottom right-hand side of your screen you should be able to see the wireless icon (if not, then you will have to go through the Control Panel). Right click and you should be able to find the readout for you wireless or wired router. There should be a "Details" tab. Once you click that you will see your IP address for your router. As I said before, mine shows up as 192.168.1.100 because I am using a Linksys router and my AX is a wireless client of the LR. If you are using something else, your number might be different; you will need to look at the last number, in my case, 100. In Admin Utility, click "Other", enter the IP address but raise the fourth set of digits by one number (e.g., 101) I was using the AX as my router for awhile, and I believe that the IP was 10.XX.XX.XX. I apologize as I am doing this from memory. I have upgraded to Vista, so I don't have an operating XP system in front of me. In Vista, right click the icon, choose Network and Sharing Center, "view Status" of your network, and then look for the "Details" button.

Oh, and in CMD, you should be able to run "ping 192.168.1.101" (no quotation marks), etc., and you will able to see the router, the AX, etc. The numbers that are available are potential numbers for your AX.

Again, I apologize as I am not an expert here. Just a guy who likes to listen to his music through the Express.

Once you've found it, save your configuration file and you will be able to pull up your AX info without having to go through all of this.
