switching between user accounts in Mail

I have set up two accounts in Mail, for two different ISPs. I can see the two accounts in the Preferences. However, I cannot see how to tell Mail which one to use. I have tried just clicking on the appropriate one in Preferences.
When I send mail, some messages are rejected, and the incorrect smtp address shows on it. I cannot see how to change it. For some messages, I can choose which smtp to use, but in some cases, the alternative does not appear.
Any ideas, please?

Mail will use both accounts. If you're trying to send a message from a specific account, go to:
Mail>Preferences>Composing and choose the account in the "Send New Mail from:" field.
If you go to Mail>Preferences>Accounts, there is a location to select the SMTP server you want to go with that address. When a message sends and doesn't go through, it will show all the other SMTP addresses you have on your computer, besides the one it just used that didn't work.

Does that answer your question?

Thanks Ben,
I have the two accounts set up with the correct smtp server assigned to each one. I can see them by clicking on each account. I have set the "Send New Mail from" to the one I want to send the particular message from.
I deleted my earlier test messages from the Outbox, and waited a few hours before trying again. It seems that using server A I can send using SSL, but that using server B I cannot use SSL. They show as different numbered ports, so there should not be a conflict.
I am now getting a different message for the one it cannot send; instead of saying it cannot send it and refusing to give me the option of using the other server, it now just says it is being rejected by the server at the other end, so maybe there is something wrong with the address.
So, looks like you have sorted that problem out; but can you tell me if there is a problem about me not being able to use SSL for one of the servers?
(I love your icon. I do have one of those old Macs; hate to throw away.)
Many thanks
