Jun 15, 2007 2:58 PM in response to Soop53by Texas Mac Man,Soop, welcome to Apple Discussions.
What update did you do? Hardware? Software?
What did the error message say?
Are you using a universal/retail Panther CD, or CDs from another model Mac?
Cheers, Tom -
Jun 16, 2007 8:29 AM in response to Soop53by Soop53,I performed a normal apple software update via the window that popped up informing me of updates. After I performed the updates, I was working in Safari and it froze. So I rebooted and the Apple screen appeared but it just sat there spinning. I loaded my Panther CD disk 1 (upgrade from OS 9...original disks) and entered Disk Utility. I did a "Verify Disk Permissions" and it stopped, then I did a "Repair Disk Permissions" and it would stopped. Both stopped in the middle of the process. Here is what it says, "Disk Utility Internal Error...Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility." -

Jun 16, 2007 5:54 PM in response to Soop53by Soop53,Thanks jpl and Texas Mac for responding to my problem. I have the retail Panther CDs I ordered a few years back. Now, that I know it might be the iTunes update. How can I get pass the open apple screen to delete the iTunes latest version? It will not let me go beyond this screen. The little wheel at the bottom continues to spin... -

Well, if you have a bootable "Classic" CD (MacOS 8.6 > 9.2.2 or one of the utilities like Norton), you can boot to this CD and have access to the OSX files. However, you MUST be careful when deleting files...you don't want to delete a necessary OSX file.
When I boot to 9.x on my Wallstreet from my HD and open the HD icon, I see the Applications folder and Applications (Mac OS 9) folder; the latter is present if you have 9.x installed. Open the Applications folder and drag iTunes to the Trash; restart to 10.x and see if the issue is solved.
If you can startup to OSX in Safe Mode/Safe Boot, you should also be able to delete the troublesome files.

If all else fails, you may have to reinstall the OS:
