Disable Multitasking?

Is there an option or will there be an option to disable multitasking in the new iOS4? I've heard that it uses extra memory and battery life to use this feature and is always running unless you specifically close all your applications when you are done with them.

I've read there is a way to do it using a 3rd party program (iFile) but I'd rather not do this.

I am so glad to see others who completely hate the multitasking. I'm so frustrated with apple right now I could explode. My iPhone pkg has 6gb and i am consistenly going over it every month since activating my iPhone 4. Even when I constantly am deleting apps from the multitask feature as soon as I'm done with them I still end up every month with overage charges.....AND IM SICK OF IT!!!!!

I'm just going to repost my old post so everyone understands my situation.

And if any big wigs from apple are seeing this...I'm going to continue to post negative comments about multitasking all over the place until you fix this stupid problem!

OLD POST:

iPhone 4 multitasking

Yes everything that is running in multitasking that connects to the Internet will cause data charges.

I just recently got the iPhone 4 and thought it was amazing until I got my phone bill and realized that I went over my 6 gb plan ( which I've had for over 2 years and with the iPhone 3GS have never even come close to using half of the 6GB's before!). Talk about shocked....then once I finally found a representative who could tell me it had to do with multitasking but had no solution as to even disable multitasking I was a little confused and angry. 1.) angry because apple bragged about the multitask feature but decided not to inform it's customers that it uses data with any app that's running in it...... And 2.) Confused at why there isn't a feature to disable multitask so you don't have to continuously open up multitask and shut down all apps inside EVERYTIME you open a new app up!!!!! It's ridiculous!

If anyone else is having this same issue and is frustrated as **** please say something about it because we need apple to fix this disaster A.S.A.P......otherwise I know for me if it's not fixed I'll be sending my iPhone 4 back and going to a new phone.

What I've generally come to the conclusion is that some people like the feature and some don't, but as many have said before, Apple need to give us, it's users, the option of turning off the multitask feature.

I certainly get annoyed when accidentally double tapping the home button and that multitask bar comes up, I hate it and it annoys me, I want the option to turn that feature off but cannot.

Apple are trying to pre-predict what it's users want, and that's fine, but when I've read so many angry user comments saying they want to turn it off then they should take heed of these comments and give us the option to turn it off.

The new iOS just came out and I understand they're working on ironing out the kinks but implementing something new, that not everyone wants, and not giving us the option to turn it off is (in my opinion) wrong.

First you need to check your mail push/pull setting. If you have your mail set to be pushed to you and have it set to check every 15 minutes, then that could be part of your problem.

No offense, but I think the representative you talked to didn't know what they were talking about, since most of the programs on the Multitask bar (which is really the recently-used-app-bar) aren't actually executing. They're suspended and waiting for you to launch them again to be reactivated. You may indeed have a rogue app that continues executing, but I'm curious if you can determine which one that is. It would have to have been coded specifically to continue, since as I said, most are just quick-frozen and waiting.

For the record, I never manually delete ANY apps from my quick-launch menu. And I haven't once ever gone over my 2GB data limit, and my iPad does not get slower and slower over time. Of course, we're not running identical apps, so it is more than likely that it's one or more specific apps that are causing you your headaches, or your mail settings. This is true on both my iPhone and my iPad.

aye, multi tasking is useless (for me!). eg, right now, according to SystemInfo Lite I have 71 MB RAM and 10 MB available. Seems a bit silly considering I have a 3GS (256MB RAM), right?

lets close some multitasked apps... (number in brackets is memory total/available, after closing)

Messages (78/15)

Mail (93/30)

App Store (105/43)

Youtube (115/48)

Ipod (126/59)

Phone (123/55) - went up here!

so just closing official apps I have apparently nearly doubled my system memory! And how exactly are those apps benefiting me by multitasking? You'd think they'd just need a few bytes in memory to say what page I currently had open, etc, but they instead seem to keep the whole app resident in memory, which might speed it up but i'll be ****** if i notice a difference - my iphone is slowwwww.

lets close some non-official apps:

words with friends (139/70)

facebook (170/101)

twitter (184/116)

accounts (187/119)

so now i have what i'd expect to see - most of my memory free, and a responsive iphone. If I open up mail it's at the email I was last reading in a second - that might be slower than if it was in memory, but frankly i'd sooner deal with that than just having a sluggish iphone that will eventually slow up even the apps that are resident in memory.

Yes you can only by ifile which can only be downloaded by jailbreaking so if you dont want to jailbreak ur iphone so u must get another app for viewing file manager from app store or other its your problem not mine so if you get it got to / than System than Library than CoreServices than Springboard.app than scroll down and find N82AP.plist click it than click on Property List Viewer than Capabilities than turn off your Multitasking .Warning do not change other things like mic or still camera or it will disasble them here we go thanks for watching my review!!! After Changing settings please restart your device once!
