iPhone 4 not charging via USB?

I got my phone on the 23rd, activated it with no problem. I plugged in my phone via USB around 11 pm last night and this morning, its only at 95% charge. This is after 7 hours of being plugged in via USB.

Has anyone else encountered a slow charging/non charging phone? I also noticed the battery life really ***** if you are on a call, but using apps really doesn't take much juice. So far I've lucked out in regard to other issues, but if the phone won't hold a charge/won't fully charge then it's not much use to me.

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.4), also have a Custom built PC running XP Pro

My Macbook does go to sleep during the night, but that shouldn't be the issue, I did the exact same thing with my 3G and never had this problem...I'm going to try to calibrate the battery/power cycle it using the wall adapter and see if that makes a difference, otherwise I'm going have to set up an appt at the genius bar.

When I bought my IPhone4 and first synced it, I got the usb too much power error message, and was having problems getting it to sync. I made an appointment with the Genius Bar at my Apple Store and they reloaded my IPhone4 firmware and reloaded ITunes on my MacBook Pro, and got it to sync. A couple of days later I tried to sync and got the same error message after it completed the sync. I set up another appointment at Genius Bar and was told I had a usb port problem with my computer (never mind the fact that my IPhone 3G, IPad and IPod Classic all sync without the error message) and that for $300 (MacBook Pro is out of warranty) the problem could be repaired. I decided to take my MacBook Pro to an Apple Reseller who is very good. They kept my MacBook Pro for 3 days and ran diagnostic tests and concluded there was nothing wrong with my computer. Although I am no tech expert, I must conclude that the error message is related to the IPhone4 and not my trusty MacBook Pro. In any event, no problems syncing or charging-- just that pesky error message.;

Just made the same discovery away from home in France. I knew my car charger was not compatible with the free Apple bumper, it turns out that the old Apple USB lead is too fat as well. So 2 out of my 3 Apple USB leads are not compatible with the Apple bumper. Fortunately the next friends I'll visit have a good workshop and I think a small modification to the bumper will solve the problem. I mean, who expected Apple to get the solution to the problem right?! May be it's time for Mr Jobs to be given his first written warning?

When I first connected the iPhone 4 (without bumper) to my MBP, it too came up with error messages. So I ignored them and persevered and in the end, iTunes 9.2.1 got bored with complaining and accepted that the phone was legit. It also offered to upgrade iPhone software, a kind offer which I accepted.

Once I had got over the physical connection problems, the iPhone 4 charged from both USB sockets quite rapidly. 50% in an 40 minutes?

My iphone 4 worked great till now. The battery life was noticeably better than my 3GS that I had previously even with ebuddy and other apps in the background.

Yesterday all of a sudden it stopped charging. When I connected to phone to the charger <strange> the small battery icon showed the 'plug' which appears when the phone is fully charged however the battery never charged. It steadily lost all the power and now it is fully discharged.

Now when I connect the phone to a charger on my USB it shows the ‘lightening’ as if its charging but the phone never powers back up. Awaiting my appointment later in the evening today.

Wondering if anyone else has faced this.

I've had the same issue since September 2nd. I would only add that my phone also gets really hot as it tries to charge but the battery doesn't actually charge in the process.

Syncing to my PC laptop only because my mac is an iMac G5 with Tiger (which I learned was not compatible with the iPhone 4 only after I bought the phone).
