There seems to be no solution at this time. I too bought the composite cables back at Chrstmas time and at this point the only TV that will give audio and video is the oldest one in the house. We have 2 newer flat screen HD TVs and only the audio works. So folks if you still have one of your CRT televisions I bet the cables will work with it. .
Just adding my voice to the thread. I bought the cable yesterday and can only get audio as well. However if you JB and use Displayout it works fine. Must be an OS issue... not great...
Same problem here except, my cable used to work for me until upgrading to 5.0.1.
All it seems to only work with certain video apps. The only one that works for me is pptv
Thanks A LOT for your comment; it's the most oportune I've read. I had the same problem and I'm almost sure I would have spent a whole life trying to figure out what the problem was... A new but damaged cable.
Just bought an Apple Composite AV Cable for my iPhone 4.
For me, all it does is play videos that are in the Camera Roll, and photographs in the Camera Roll as long as I am playing a slideshow (not individual photos). It doesn't seem to work with the YouTube app, or indeed any app other than the Camera Roll.
Another thing about the cable is that the plugs are all nice and smooth and shiny, so it looks nice...and is a bugger to pull out of the AV sockets on the TV because they have no grip.
So now I'm off to copy some movies from my Mac to my iPhone using the devil's own software, iTunes. 😕
Well done Apple: always turning simple things into a confusing hassle!
I have an unreliable cable too. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. However, if I take everything out, switch everything off at the plug and then turn it back on again and start again that tends to make it work. Classic IT solution!
I figure it out..
First just make sure all plugs are conneted properly into respective color..
Second go to SETTINGS > GENERAL > TV OUT > TV SIGNAL (must be NTSC)
then Third is the WIDESCREEN ON (SETTINGS > GENERAL > TV OUT > WIDESCREEN "ON")
It works well for me :)
I have been using an iPad 3 with a video composite cable for a long time. I have suddenly run into a problem where i may get sound, but no video output on the TVs I plug it into. I tried 'jiggling' the cord and unplugging etc. I have ordered a new AV composite cable, but could the problem be in my iPad and not the cord?
After reading about others using this cable and with no picture I felt despair but have now totally fixed it! I downloaded the composite cable user manual and followed the instructions to the letter even if it did not seem necessary. Turn everything off at the start and have every cord plugged in. Enjoy :-)
I had this issue too. Finally solved! If your cable is not recognized when you hook it into your iPhone for i.e. when you go to
