I was comparing my iPhone 4 32gig screen with my mom's and wife's iPhone 4 16gig and I notice that my screen are different from there in terms of color. Mine are a tint darker than theirs. Anyone else notice a difference in their screen? Thanks in advance!
the yellow tint that person is talking about is the white balance (the color temperature) of the screen... it has absolutely nothing to do with undried glue residue causing yellow spots/splotches on the screen. they are two completely separate and different issues.
My iphone 4 32GB LCD looks fine. Not as blue as my 3G but, I thought the 3G was too blueish. I compared my 32GB with a friends 16GB and there is no difference. So the discussion of the 32GB LCD being a different color temp compared to the 16GB isn't solid. However, mine did seem a little greenish at first but seemed to have disappeared over a couple of days. Not sure if it's due to the fact that I no longer compare it to my 3G or I just got use to it. I purchased my iphone 6 days ago here in Canada and currently have no issues with it and the LCD color temp is the same as my friends 16GB.......
Same issue here. I have a 16 GB iPhone 4 I got on Pre-Order in June, screen is white/white maybe with a blueish hue. Just bought my wife a 16 GB iPhone 4 yesterday and right off the bat I noticed a yellow hue to the whites and more warmer color.
Overall the screen is crystal clear, I just don't know if there is somthing wrong with hers etc?
I went back to the ATT store, they looked at hers compared to their display and thought something was wrong with hers, so they got a brand new one out of the back and swapped it, still the same, more yellow.
Let me help you all out with my personal experience. I recently purchased two iPhone 4, and lo and behold, have noticed the gray tint you are talking about. I first noticed it right away when I activated my phone, and when comparing the two phones side by side using Flashlight's white screen, one of the two is definitely grayer. But the other new iPhone 4 has the "normal" bluish white, much similar to my old iPhone 3G when also compared side by side. I think the previous post mentioned different lighting component, so I can tell you now that the gray tint is not universal to all iPhone 4's. I don't like this grayish tint at all, it's as though I'm looking at the display through a filter.
I have on question to all the folks on here comparing the screens. Did you make sure auto brightness was turned off on both phones. One phone could be just a tad brighter than the other because of the sensors being slightly different. Try turning off auto brightness before making these tests. Also there are an aweful lot of you really worrying about stuff that is really piddly.
Both of my new iPhone 4's are 32GB, and I have a 3G 16GB. I compared them side by side, using Flashlight's white screen with the Auto-Brightness off and on the same setting (of course the brightness level are approximately equal by eyeballing it without resorting to a caliper.)
The 3G appears to be the brightest of the three, possibly an effect of the tint? Iphone 4(A) is a little less bluish than the old 3G, and you only notice this by side-by-side (SBS) comparison. Iphone 4(B) has a gray-greenish tint to it, which I immediately noticed even without a SBS comparison with the 4(A). When you line them up, I get a gradation of white from bluish to grayish with the iPhone 4(a) in the middle.
I have to emphasize that I noticed the gray-greenish tint right away, and I intend to return it because it seems like a dull cast over the display, literally and figuratively.
This is of course my anecdotal observation, which seem to reflect the experience here.
yup facing the same problem here, my iP4 16G screen is more yellowish, i have tested it at epi center with the display phone side by side. my is way more yellowish compare to the display set. So what the solution? will apple change or replace it? thanks
I wanna know if there is a way to change the RGB value to the screen! I use Eye One Pro spectrophotometer with a target loaded in JPG using sRGB colorspace to test and measure the RGB values, and I can say it's less than "ideal".
Would be nice to be able to color calibrate/correct the iphone 4 screen. Cuz all my pictures that I do professionally is "blobbing" out (most likely due to color exceeding the iphone 4's colorspace)
I too just got a 16GB iPhone 4 and there is a *HORRIBLE yellow cast* to the screen. I'm an avid photographer and the supposedly superior screen was one of the major reasons I purchased the phone. I'm going to try and take it to the Apple store for a replacement.
Okay, here's what I found out. Before that, I lived in Malaysia, so I'll be referring the situation based on my country.
I purchased a 32GB iPhone4 a week ago (14.10.2010), a few days later I noticed my WHOLE screen was actually yellowish, like warm yellowish. I noticed it by comparing with my sister's 16GB iphone4. Not only her's, I did compared with my friends' as well, the thing is that, they're too using 16GB, so i need to find someone with a 32GB as well to be fair in comparing (assuming 16GB model was fine). Then I went to the Apple Premium Reseller and one of the staff was using a 32GB iPhone4 and obviously his screen was like the "normal" blueish screen similar with the 16GB when i compared. He bought it during the day it launch in Malaysia (24.9.2010). _He said probably the iphone4 batch I received was from a different manufacturer, is it true?_ Later, I went to sent back to Maxis (the provider for iPhone4 in Malaysia). Surprisingly, they're reluctant in exchange mine with new one. They told me that, a customer came previously with the same problem requesting for exchange and they did, and the result is still the same, YELLOWISH SCREEN. The Maxis consultant told me they can't risk in opening new ones with the result would be the same.
My point here is that, does most of newly batch iPhone4 32GB had problem with the screen being all warm yellowish?
I too have recently compared my 32gb iphone4 to a friends 16 and another friends 32 and see mine has a 'warmer' white. I'd say yellow, but, it's off white. I tried brightness adjusting to no avail. It made a slight difference. All three have invisishield on. I peeled it back and saw no difference.
I was thinking about variations in batches. Maybe it's within tolerances. Or, maybe off-white is now more desireable. A friend said to me, maybe yours is fine, theirs is 'off'. Perspective.
Perhaps this off white WARMER colour is the latest update. It is noticeable SBS others, but not really annoying if you don't compare. Maybe it's Warmer. On purpose. Shhh. Don't ruin the rationalizations.
I wonder if I should see a genius The phone has no other issues. Risk getting a dud if you swap. Or, maybe this plant makes them with the off-white.
I'd accept that answer. I tooo just want to know if it's 'defective' or not. Not, then, wow, what a nice warm white 🙂
On the left is a launch date Iphone 4, and the right is what arrived yesteday.
Horrible color, they Apple store replaced it with one that is better but not the same, said the same thing about the residue must wear off, give it a week they said.
Is this the place where we get support from Apple? seems like we were ignored. any apple personnel here that can explain the yellowish display? or do we have to go to CHINA to complain, as much as i want to see the great wall, but im afraid Coke will taste diff than any other place.
